Wildlands Restoration Volunteers: Rivers - Poudre River Willows Harvest

  • What: Collect native willows for future Cameron Peak Fire restoration projects! Willows are one of the most functional plants to use in river restoration. Help us collect willows this spring for river restoration projects in the fall! After the Cameron Peak fire in 2020, many rivers are at risk of severe erosion issues. Harvesting willows for replanting in these areas helps protect stream channels and our water supply. Willows are really great at regrowing and establishing root systems from cuttings in order to stabilize stream banks.

    • Willows collected in the spring are usually the most successful at sprouting after planting. We'll collect them before they leaf out and store them for planting during low water levels in the fall. Join us and play your part in the journey of a willow stake from dormant twig to leafed-out stabilizing superhero!
