Community Fruit Rescue: Winter Fruit Tree Care - Pruning Mature and Fireblighted Trees

What: Join Community Fruit RescueBenevolence Orchard, and Widespread Malus for their upcoming Fruit Tree Care Workshop which will focus on fireblight management as well as pruning practices for mature fruit trees.

A widespread case of fireblight has affected Boulder's fruit trees this past year. Fireblight is a bacterial disease that kills branches, creating a scorched effect, and spreading more easily during particularly wet seasons like we saw this spring. Acts of care taken now and over the winter will help our trees recover in time for the next growing season and prevent further impacts. This workshop will focus on how to prune back infected branches while also encouraging strong branching structure in mature trees that will promote air circulation and stimulate robust fruit production. Before trees leaf out (late January through February) is the best time to prune.
