The Art

Exhibition Dates: August 12 - September 28, 2023

Over 90 Colorado artists submitted 170+ artworks including sculpture, paintings, collage, tile, textile, stained glass, jewelry and more.

Artworks were selected by a jury committee of volunteers — including sciences, artists and insect educators. Join us for an exhibition of artworks that celebrate both the biodiversity of insects, as well as artists' range of creative style and use of media. Through the perspective of these artists, you’ll learn to see insects in a different way. Join us for artist talks, workshops, and events to see how you can be part of the solution.

VISIT

The Canyon Gallery is open during all business hours at the Boulder Library Main Branch

Monday-Thursday: 9:00am-7:00pm

Friday-Saturday: 10:00am-5:00pm

Sunday: noon-5:00pm


No reservations are needed to visit during open hours. All are welcome. Admission is free.

This Week’s Featured Artist

Artist: Andy Olson

Title: La Araña y El Alacran

Medium: Wood and metal sculpture

From the Artist:
Sculptural diptych of native Coloradan arachnids. Cut and carved out of wood to match the camouflage colors of the Aphonopelma Coloradan Tarantula and the Striped Bark Scorpion (literally named for its wood color). Made with razor edged wood carving tools, each piece embodies a delicate yet dangerous aesthetic that also matches the arachnids in nature and form. The sharp points reflect the venomous character of the arachnids and their characteristically sharp bites, pinches and stings.
