Winter Fruit Tree Care: Pruning Apple & Pear Trees

  • What: Join Community Fruit RescueBenevolence Orchard, and Widespread Malus for their upcoming Fruit Tree Care Workshop which will focus on pruning practices for apple & pear trees on February 8th, 2025! Throughout their harvesting efforts, they notice that many of the trees they work with each fall could use some TLC throughout the rest of the year, too! Acts of care taken now and over the winter will help ensure health during the next growing season. This workshop will focus on how to prune back branches and encourage strong branching structure that will promote air circulation and stimulate robust fruit production. Before trees leaf out (late January through February) is the best time to prune.​ Please note that they will focus this workshop primarily on apple and pear trees, and will briefly look at some stone fruit trees. 

    This workshop will last for two hours. For those with additional questions, an eagerness to continue conversations, or curiosity about our organizations, you're welcome to stick around for a bit after the workshop.

  • Details:

    • They will provide light snacks, warm beverages, a bonfire and all the necessary tools. Dress warm, as this workshop will take place outdoors! As a backup plan for extreme winter conditions, they will move into the Benevolence Barn if necessary. Feel free to bring your own gardening gloves and whatever you need to be comfortable for the duration of this workshop.
