Under the Weather: Diseases Affecting Native and Domestic Bees and One Health Approaches

  • What: Join PPAN and bee veterinarian Nolan Bunting as they explore the fascinating links between pollinators—both native and domestic—and health. Bunting will discuss the vital roles played by domestic honeybees, native bees, and other pollinators in connecting the health of humans, animals, and ecosystems. From tiny invertebrates to larger species, these creatures contribute in countless ways to our well-being, while our actions directly impact their survival and health.

About the Speaker: Nolan Bunting is a veterinarian and bee enthusiast from Homer, Alaska. He has been working with pollinators in Colorado and Alaska for over 10 years – ranging from domesticated honey bees to native bees and butterflies. As a veterinarian, he cares deeply for One Health Initiatives that focus on the support of the environment and animal health. In fact, Bunting pursued veterinary medicine to help bridge the two fields. His focuses are on honey bee and comparative invertebrate medicine, preventative medicine for domesticated and exotic animals, wildlife forensics, and disaster response.
