Wildlands Restoration Volunteers: Forests - Sandman Fire Mitigation

  • What: Thin streamside forest for use in building in-stream structures! Join WRV chainsaw sawyers in helping improve Northern Colorado watersheds! The increasing frequency of extensive fires has highlighted the importance of fire mitigation efforts such as forest thinning to reduce the probability of fire and increase forest health.

    • This work is part of a watershed-level effort to increase overall ecosystem resiliency to future disturbances. We will be mitigating fire and improving riparian ecosystems by using the material from what is thinned to construct in-stream structures. Volunteers will build these structures in adjacent streams in the separate Rivers: Sandman Stream Restoration project.
