Wildlands Restoration Volunteers: Forests - Cameron Peak Fire Tree Planting

  • What: Assist the recovery effort from Colorado's largest wildfire! 2020 saw many of the most extensive fires in Colorado history impact Northern Colorado. Many areas have experienced near complete mortality of the native ponderosa pine forests as a result. WRV's reforestation projects are part of a collaborative effort among multiple Larimer County nonprofits and agencies to help regenerate forests in the Poudre River and Big Thompson watersheds that have been impacted by recent wildfires.

    • We use seedlings grown from locally sourced seed that is matched to the elevation and general geographic area of the planting location. The Nature Conservancy is helping our collaborative group target suitable areas where trees are expected to survive under different climate models in the face of climate change. Through this process, we hope to remove barriers to reforestation facing our community and support the adoption of climate-smart planting practices to ensure the long-term success of our efforts.
