Harlequin's Gardens: Plastic-Free Seed Starting for Home Gardeners, with Alex Bruce
What: This class is for home gardeners of any level who are interested in learning how to start seeds without plastic! Plastics that are used for growing seedlings are often flimsy, are too large for home gardeners, or blow away after you accidentally leave them outside (oops!). This class will go over soil blocking (see below), watering blocks, equipment needed, soil recipes, organic fertilizers, and an easy calendar to use for seed starting. At the end of the course, you will leave with eight seedlings in soil blocks (many seeds will be available to choose from). Some soil blockers will be available for sale.
This class is limited to 15 participants, so click here to register and ensure a spot!
Cost: $30 per registration
Soil blocking is a method of creating small cubes of soil that are sturdy enough to keep their shape while seedlings are growing. Popularized in the US by Elliot Coleman for organic market gardeners, it is a great option for starting seeds for your home garden. This class is limited to 15 participants, register early!
Alex Bruce is a propagator at Harlequin’s Gardens and is a Colorado certified Nursery Professional.
