Drylands Agroecology Research: Insect Biodiversity Field Day

  • Left Hand Creek Ranch Longmont (map)

What: Are you interested in learning about the abundant insect life that surrounds you, and what it can show us about ecosystem health? Our insect biodiversity research is hands-on, accessible, and grounded in basic bug knowledge (no need to be an entomologist!) This session will help you identify some basic patterns and types of insects and understand their role in ecosystem health. You’ll get a chance to participate in categorizing and counting insects using netting and pitfall trap methods. You’ll leave with some practical tools and methods for studying biodiversity on your own site, whether that’s a backyard or a favorite hiking trail. Access to digital notes and methodologies included.
